Volvo Military Sales

Questions and
Answers

  1. Is the Volvo Military Sales Program associated with the any of the other programs currently available through the US Military PX/BX system?
No, this is an independent program operating directly from the factory. The program was originally introduced over 50 years ago as a “thank you” to US military personnel for their efforts in maintaining peace throughout Europe. Since that time the program has evolved into one of the most successful programs of its kind.
  2. Is it possible for both DOD civilian employees and civilians contracted to the US Military to participate in this program?
Yes, both groups may participate in the program providing the person holds a valid US Military ID Card and is assigned on official orders to a location outside the USA and its territories.
  3. Are prices in the program set, or do I have to negotiate in order to obtain the lowest possible price?
No, this is an element of the Volvo program that military customers like the most - you don’t have to do battle with a salesperson to get the best deal. The lowest price has already been negotiated on your behalf and prices are set in US Dollars (unaffected by daily currency fluctuations.). No agency within the Military Sales Program may arbitrarily alter the prices. The price you see is the price you pay and everyone pays the same!
  4. May I custom order a Volvo with my own color/option configuration?
Yes, that’s actually how the majority of people use the program. Your chosen configuration is now available with ‘Custom Build’ options that are not on the Volvo program in the United States. There are of course a number of models that may be chosen from stock for those people with more immediate requirements.
  5. If I decide to place an order, how does the down payment work?
The minimum amount required by Volvo at the time of order is $2000 (USD) Autovillage will accept this initial payment by way of a personal check or wire transfer and this amount is deducted form the total to give a balance due.
  6. In the event that I’m unable to obtain financing for my purchase, what happens if I need to withdraw my order?
It is advised that you apply for a loan within a short period of time after placing your order, so that availability of financing may be established as soon as possible. We work with many Federal Credit Unions but unfortunately are unable to offer in house financing.
  7. What kind of Warranty comes with a Volvo purchased through this program?
The car comes with a 4 years / 50,000 mile warranty, worldwide cover. This means that even if you move back to the states your warranty will be transferred with you.
  8. Will the Volvo Factory Maintenance Program cover my Volvo?
Yes, the 3 years or 4 services Factory Maintenance Program will be honored at any authorized Volvo retailer in Austria, Belgium, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Rep., Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guam, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Turkey, Untied Kingdom and the United States.
  9. If I take delivery of a Volvo in Europe, where could the recommended servicing and warranty work be carried out?
Although your Volvo will have been manufactured to US Californian specifications, any authorized European Volvo service centre may perform any scheduled maintenance or carry out any warranty work that may be necessary.
  10. How does the Volvo Home Shipment Program work?
Volvo models that are purchased through the Military Sales Program and delivered to a local destination in Europe now come with a 5 year US Home Shipment voucher included. You may take your Volvo to one of several drop-off points located throughout Europe to be trucked to the nearest port of embarkation. There are currently five designated US ports of entry to which your Volvo may be shipped. Shipping time is around 8 to 10 weeks to East and West Coast ports respectively. From the port your Volvo will be transported to the selected Volvo dealer ready for your collection. The voucher allows you to ship your car home from a hugely discounted price of £500 from the UK. Other European drop off points varies in price.
  11. Is it possible to have my Volvo shipped directly to the USA?
Yes, this is possible as Volvo offers a Direct Stateside Shipping option that enables you to have your Volvo shipped directly from the factory to a Volvo Dealer of your choice anywhere within mainland, Alaska or Hawaii.
  12. Do all cars sold in this program conform to US Import requirements?
Yes, not only do they fully conform to US federal regulations but they also fulfill all legal requirements in the state of California.
  13. What is my Federal Import Tax liability in the USA if I purchase through this program?
The Federal Import Tax is set at 2.5% of the value of the car stated on the Bill of Sale. However, if you ship the car back to the states with PSC orders then this will exempt these taxes. If you purchase a car through the direct shipment program then the Federal Import Tax is already included in the final price.
  14. What is my State Sales Tax liability if I purchase through this program?
In the case of State Sales Tax it is impossible to list definitive criteria as each individual state views both rates and liability differently. As a general rule you should expect to pay some form of tax upon first registration in the USA. However, as a military person you may qualify for exemption or if the vehicle has already been bought and owned out of state (sometimes for a specified time period) this may also fulfill criteria for exemption. It’s always a good idea to try to obtain first-hand information from the appropriate local office.

*Autovillage Ltd nor its representatives will be responsible for any form of tax liability incurred on automobiles imported into the USA. As is universally the case, tax liability rests with the individual and ignorance of the appropriate legislation will not be considered as grounds for exemption.
